On Monday, August 31st, the Rangers welcomed the Hatchets for a JV/V double header to Cedar Crest on a hot, muggy evening. In the JV game, the Rangers took an early lead. Joshua Parra won the ball in a dangerous spot and scored to get the Rangers on the board. For the second goal, Kreed Weyer earned and scored a pk. Then, Parra found Felix Schmuecker for the third goal and Forest Park took an early 3-0 lead. After the Hatchets scored a goal, Sebastian Sicard found Parra to take a 4-1 lead. The game took a hydration break, and then the Hatchets turned to two of their faster players and scored three goals to tie the game and take the momentum into halftime. The Rangers came out strong again in the second half. Forest Park took the lead again when Jace Rickenbaugh won the ball around midfield and found Parra who scored his third goal of the evening. The Hatchets pushed to tie the game but Zander Berg and Eli Reckelhoff, and the rest of the Ranger’s defense played strong. Near the end of the game, Parra scored his fourth goal on a pass from Schmuecker to give the Rangers a little breathing room. That is where the game stayed with the Rangers winning 6-4. In the second game of the double header, the varsity team fell behind early struggling to deal with the Hatchets speed, technical ability and movement off the ball. The Hatchets took a 4-0 lead into halftime. The Rangers dug deep and played hard in the second half. After the Hatchets scored a fifth goal, Forest Park’s Brennan Grissom sent a dangerous ball up to Ryder Winters who managed to get a foot on the ball with a defender and goalie closing to score for the Rangers. The Rangers were able to hold some more possession in the second half and Sam Ernst won a pk in the box. Zach Cummings stepped up the spot and scored to bring the score to 2-5. The Rangers created a few more opportunities but could not find the net, falling 2-5 to a strong Washington team.
