The Forest Park Rangers endured a sluggish start Tuesday night but eventually found their rhythm, exploding for six second-half goals to cruise past the Evansville Day Eagles, 7-0, on Sept. 1. The Rangers came out on the front foot, applying pressure and creating scoring opportunities early, but struggled to find the back of the net. Forest Park recorded 13 shots and four corner kicks in the opening half, but Evansville Day managed to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard until the 21st minute. That’s when Luke Meunier delivered a low cross into the box that found Lucas Dooley, who finished the opportunity to give Forest Park a 1-0 lead. The Rangers carried that advantage into halftime, while goalkeeper Dexter Meyer remained virtually untested. Meyer did not record a save during his 70 minutes in goal as Forest Park’s defense kept the Eagles from generating dangerous opportunities. Forest Park came out of the halftime break with a much different offensive attack. Just three minutes into the second half, Gabe Schemenaur received a pass from Dominic Schemenaur and unleashed a shot from outside the box to push the Rangers’ advantage to 2-0. Twelve minutes later, Gabe Schemenaur turned provider, finding Parker Wolf, who calmly slotted home his shot to make it 3-0. The Rangers continued their offensive onslaught just seconds later when Meunier added his name to the scoresheet with a solo effort, extending the lead to 4-0. With 11 minutes remaining, Bryant Cooper joined the scoring barrage after being set up by Carson Kellems, making it 5-0. Just two minutes later, Cooper returned the favor, supplying Dominic Schemenaur with a pass that Dominic converted to give Forest Park a commanding 6-0 advantage. The Rangers weren’t finished. With just one minute remaining, Cooper delivered a corner kick into the box, finding Eli Ernst, who finished with a side-net shot to cap the scoring at 7-0. Forest Park finished the second half with six goals on 16 shots and added two more corner kicks. Defensively, the Rangers posted their second consecutive clean sheet and their third of the season. Meyer finished his 70 minutes without being forced to make a save, while Anstin Vonderheide entered for the final 10 minutes and recorded two saves to preserve the shutout. After a slow start, the Rangers’ offense came alive in the second half, turning a one-goal halftime advantage into a dominant 7-0 victory. Forest Park will return to action Thursday night when the Rangers host PAC opponent and No. 15-ranked Class 2A Southridge.
