The Forest Park Rangers entered Thursday night’s matchup with Southridge looking to make a statement against the No. 15-ranked Raiders in Class 2A. Instead, Southridge delivered the statement. The No. 9-ranked Rangers in Class 1A came out with an early spell of possession, controlling the ball and looking to establish their attack. But that momentum quickly disappeared when the Raiders found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Southridge doubled its advantage just four minutes later, scoring in the 17th minute to take a 2-0 lead. The Raiders continued to pressure the Rangers and added a third goal in the 27th minute, sending Southridge into halftime with a commanding 3-0 advantage. Forest Park struggled to generate much offensively for the remainder of the first half, and the Rangers faced a steep uphill climb coming out of the break. Any hopes of an early second-half comeback were quickly erased. Southridge scored immediately after halftime, pushing its lead to 4-0 and putting the game firmly out of reach. The Raiders added one more goal before the final whistle, completing a 5-0 shutout victory over the Rangers. The result dropped Forest Park to 4-2 on the season. For the Rangers, the loss snapped a three-game home winning streak and provided a tough lesson in a matchup between two ranked teams. Forest Park had entered the game averaging 5.5 goals per game, but the Raiders' defense held the Rangers scoreless throughout the night. Forest Park will have a quick opportunity to respond. The Rangers return to the field Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Crest, where they will host Evansville Christian. After a difficult night against Southridge, Forest Park will look to put the loss behind them and get back on track.
