Hard Fought 4-1 Win for the FP Boys Tennis Team Over Southridge The Forest Park Boys Tennis team traveled to their county rival in Southridge on Tuesday evening. With both teams having similar strengths, both coaches knew this was going to be a hard fought battle. The Rangers pulled out the win with 3 matches going into a 3rd set. The Rangers got in the win column first with Sophomore 1 Singles player Jace Brockman playing very well vs a Senior. Jace started his match down 1-2 and then settled in and won 5 straight games to win the match. He then kept that same play and won the second set comfortably as well. Coach Hochgesang was very proud of Jace and how he played. Miles Rea was at 2 Singles, playing a quick and consistent freshman. Sophomore Miles took a few games to get comfortable with his opponent who returned every hard hit ball that Miles put out there. Rea was able to adjust his game and get the job done. It was good for Miles to play a different player like this to see if Rea could adjust; Coach was proud to see his adjustments. 3 Singles player, Trey Benton, struggled tonight with confidence and the heat. Trey cruised through the first set, but struggled in the second set due to Southridge's player getting confident. This match went into a full third set tiebreaker and was the last match off the court. Trey was up 5-4 in the final set, but couldn't finish the deal and lost a heartbreaker. This was a match that Trey knows he should have won, and it was a match he learned from. 1 Doubles, Eli Brockman and Clayton Roesner, played a tough match with both players banged up with sicknesses and small injuries. Eli and Clayton played well in the first set and won comfortably. The pair started the second set down 0-3 and had to battle back. After a talkin' with Coach Hochgesang, the boys won the next two games to make it a game. After a few let downs, the FP 1D team was forced to go into a full third set. The duo came out with confidence and found themselves up 4-1. After getting it to 5-3, Eli and Clayton were able to get the job done against a tough Southridge 1D team. Jace Betz and Drew Fischer, at 2 Doubles, had another difficult match. The Ranger pair had a lot of up and downs in their match. FP found themselves up 5-4 in both sets but fell in the first set and won the second set in a 7-point tiebreaker. The Rangers had won as a team by the time 2D was forced to play a third set, so the coach's agreed to play a 10-point tiebreaker to determine the match. The Ranger pair won this tiebreaker 10-6. The Rangers and Raiders were also able to get some JV matches in as both teams had 12 players. Zaden Fromme played a singles match vs a Junior. Parker Schnarr & Harrison Gutgsell won their doubles match, and Colton Osborn and Preston Englert almost pulled out a tiebreaker win in their match.
