TELL CITY — On a rain-soaked Monday night at William Tell Elementary School, the Forest Park Rangers battled through slick conditions and a resilient North Posey squad to earn a dramatic 3-2 victory in the first round of sectional play. The Rangers came out firing from the opening whistle, dictating play and peppering the Vikings’ goalkeeper with early chances. After six shots in the opening minutes, Forest Park broke through in the 10th minute when sophomore Hunter Osborne curled a free kick into the back of the net for the game’s first goal. The Rangers continued their early dominance, and just six minutes later, Parker Wolf doubled the lead after a crisp assist from Gabe Schemanuer, making it 2-0. Despite the rain intensifying and slowing play, Forest Park maintained control through much of the first half. The Vikings did create pressure of their own, testing freshman goalkeeper Dexter Meyer six times, but Meyer stood tall to preserve the lead into halftime. North Posey came out determined after the break, flipping the momentum in their favor. Their persistence paid off with a 59th-minute penalty kick, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Just seven minutes later, they capitalized again to level the score at 2-2. With time winding down, Forest Park dug deep, pushing forward in search of a winner. Their perseverance paid off in the closing moments when Osborne once again delivered, with another free kick goal with just over a minute remaining to restore the Rangers’ lead. Forest Park held strong through the final whistle to secure the 3-2 victory and advance to the sectional semifinal. The Rangers will face South Spencer on Wednesday night at William Tell Elementary School, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.
