In the sectional semifinal matchup on Wednesday night, the Forest Park Rangers defeated the South Spencer Rebels 2-1 to advance to the championship game. The match, played on the damp field of William Tell Elementary School, started cautiously as both sides looked to settle into rhythm and gain control of possession. Midway through the first half, the Rangers began to assert themselves, pushing the pace and testing the Rebels’ defense and goalkeeper. Their persistence paid off with just four minutes remaining before halftime when sophomore Hunter Osborne delivered a well-placed cross into the box, finding the head of fellow sophomore Lucas Dooley, who nodded home the opening goal. Forest Park carried a 1-0 lead into the break after firing 14 total shots, while goalkeeper Dexter Meyer made two key saves to preserve the advantage. The Rangers wasted no time extending their lead early in the second half. Just five minutes after the restart, a corner kick from senior Gabe Schemanuer found the head of Luke Meunier, who powered in a goal to make it 2-0. Forest Park continued to dominate possession and create chances but couldn’t find another goal to seal it. With eight minutes remaining, South Spencer was awarded a penalty kick and converted, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and creating a tense final stretch. Despite the late pressure, the Rangers’ back line held firm to secure the victory and book their spot in the sectional final. Forest Park will face off against Tell City in the championship match on Saturday at William Tell Elementary School, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. EST.
