On Wednesday night, the Forest Park Rangers traveled to face the Providence Pioneers in the Regional Semi-Final, and the packed stands were treated to a dramatic, high-intensity match that ended in heartbreak for the Rangers. After a back-and-forth battle that stretched into overtime, Forest Park fell 4-3, ending their season with a 10-9 record and a sectional championship to their name. Providence came out as the aggressor from the opening whistle, dictating play and finding the opening goal just six minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Forest Park gradually settled into the match around the 10-minute mark, finding rhythm in the midfield and starting to create scoring chances of their own. The Rangers tallied five first-half shots and earned a corner but couldn’t find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Dexter Meyer kept them in the game with two key saves to keep the deficit at one heading into halftime. The Rangers came out of the halftime break with renewed energy and quickly drew level. Just six minutes into the second half, Gabe Schemenauer delivered a pinpoint corner kick that found the head of Parker Wolf, who buried it to tie the game 1-1. The goal reignited both sides as the intensity ramped up. Providence answered back 9 minutes later to regain a 2-1 lead, but Forest Park refused to fold. With just 10 minutes remaining, Schemenauer once again made an impact — this time setting up Luke Meunier, who unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box to level the score at 2-2. The Rangers outshot Providence 7-5 in the second half, while Meyer added four more saves to keep the game alive. In overtime, the Rangers struck first. Four minutes in, senior Edgardo Zelaya threaded a perfect through ball to sophomore Hunter Osborne, who calmly slotted home the go-ahead goal — giving Forest Park its first lead of the night. With just 11 minutes remaining in extra time, the Rangers shifted their focus to defense, doing everything they could to hold off Providence’s relentless attack. But with under two minutes to play, Providence equalized with a long-range effort. Then, in devastating fashion, Providence found the winner with just 10 seconds left in overtime, ending the Rangers’ postseason run. Despite the tough loss, Forest Park’s season was marked by grit, growth, and a sectional championship — their resilience on full display in one of the most thrilling matches of their campaign.
